The rail pincers is a device for protecting cranes against drifting by wind. It was developed in design and execution according to the guidelines of VDI 3650.
The functioning complies with the criteria of self-clamping devices to VDI, but has in use the functionality of a clamp assembly. With this function, coupling a high level of security and a low mechanical load on the crane rail is achieved. The lock on the rail is done by wedges in a jaw, which are effective in wind output.
The release of the rail pincers is not a problem even after anchoring as a lever system, the wedge clamp jaws are folded sideways.
The application of the rail pincers is based off of the hydraulic unit. This full function security is guaranteed even in case of power failure. It can be controlled using a separate switch on the main contactor or a wind measuring device. An additional switching contact the crane carriage is turned off when applying the rail pincers.
With defective hydraulic system, a release of the rail pincers by hand is possible. In the event of damage the emergency-off switches for the control to be operated in order to ensure an electrical disconnection of the hydraulic unit.
By bearing in the swivel sleeves rail pincers jaws it is possible (if the cran construction allows this) to fit a crane with only a wind protection. The specified holding forces are expected to be reduced to 80% for safety.
